Last modified on July 25, 2025

On October 3, 2018, Farrah Turner, a highly decorated Florence County Sheriff’s Deputy, was tragically shot in the line of duty by Frederick Hopkins. After a nineteen-day fight, Farrah succumbed to her injuries. Today, Attorneys representing the Estate of Farrah Turner filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Florence County, South Carolina against those responsible for her untimely death.

The suit alleges that Frederick Hopkins had a history of mental illness and violence. Also named in the lawsuit is his wife, Cheryl Hopkins for knowingly allowing Frederick Hopkins to keep unsecured weapons in the house despite direct knowledge of his documented mental illness. The Trust which owns the property where the shooting occurred was named as well as the man who controls the Trust, David Suggs, brother of Cheryl Hopkins. The evidence at Trial will prove that these Defendants are responsible for the heinous massacre which took place on October 3, 2018, and we fully intend to take these people to task at Trial.
The family respectfully asks for privacy and would ask that all inquiries be sent to their Attorneys, Jerry Meehan, William Crantford, and Britney Weaver, who can be reached at 843-376-4030.
